I’ll admit it. I have been struck with Manny-Mania. I have enjoyed the past week watching Dodger games really for the first time all year. And while they haven’t won every single game that Manny has played in, they have been for the most part, exciting. And Manny has delivered much to the consternation of fans back in Boston who accuse him of sand bagging the last couple weeks in order to get out of his contract. While in Los Angeles, Manny has hit 4 home runs, has 9 RBI and is 13 for 23 (.565) in the past week alone. The Dodgers have been so starved for offensive production that most fans are positively beside themselves with exhilaration.
It really can’t last though. These are the Dodgers after all. And I have several questions:
1) When will the Honeymoon be over and we finally see the infamous “Manny being Manny”? In other words, how long till Manny throws his first temper tantrum and refuses to play?
2) How much money is McCheap going to make off of selling hats with Dreads and other cheap crap made in China with Manny’s name on it in the next two months?
3) How long till Jeff Kent gets on Manny about “hustling” and/or acting “professional” and then the entire locker room blows up because of clashing personalities?
4) How long till McCheap starts selling playoff tickets for the playoff games that probably never will come?
5) How long after the season ends will McCheap and Ned posture about wanting to sign Manny to a long term deal when they really don’t want to spend the money?
As a typical Dodger fan, I know it will be painful to watch the Dodgers fall apart at the end of the season and lose the division to a sub-.500 team. It will be painful and frustrating but I will still watch…
