I am starting to get a lot of hits on this blog and have noticed that other comments on other community blogs are growing. It is great that our neighbors are so passionate about the issues that we face in San Pedro.
The Angel’s Gate High School project is a particularly sensitive issue. I admit that I may be somewhat biased about this issue. Yes I do want the best for my kids and yes I would love for my kids to go to Angel’s Gate High School. But I really believe the entire community and all the students in the neighborhood would benefit from a new school.

When looking at these great, well organized and well written blogs in opposition to Angel’s Gate High School, I really feel a little over matched.
As far as any professional conflict of interest: it is true that I am trained as an architect who works in the construction industry but my company does not build public projects and so I would not benefit professionally by supporting construction projects by LAUSD or the Port of Los Angeles.
Here is the text of my comment on the DEIR for South Region High School #15:
“I support the construction of the new 810 seat high school at the Fort McArthur Upper Reservation site as described in the Draft EIR dated August 2008.
I am particularly interested in this school being a “Green” demonstration project as indicated in the Project Description. It is important that LAUSD be a leader in funding and implementing safe and sustainable building practices and therefore providing safe and healthy learning environments for our children.
I am not convinced that this school needs to be an “annex” to San Pedro High School as many in the community have requested. A stand alone school may better serve this community. I request that once the overcrowding is relieved at San Pedro High School that a program to upgrade that school is also developed.”

Put “South Region High School #15” in the subject line.

Welcome to blogging in OUR community!
The comment period for the South Region High School Draft Environmental Impact Report actually ends on October 10, but it would be a good idea for folks to get their comments in as early as possible.
Thank you so much for referencing one of my blogs on your blog. I will link your blog to my blogs soon.
Ponte Vista at San Pedro will be mandated to be constructed using LEEDs certification no matter what is built there or who is doing the building.
A recent set of ordinances was passed in the city of Los Angeles mandating “Green” developments be constructed.
Bob will do only what is now required IF he builds anything at all.
Folks should know that the idea of wind turbines at SRHS 15 is more of a scam proposal than any true item.
It was thrown in only to try to attract more support for the project.
With the redevelopment of the Point Fermin Outdoor Education Center, plants native to the area will come back, the funding is already in place.
One of the plants slated to come back is the home of the endangered Palos Verdes Blue butterfly. It would be against Federal law to build a large high school directly so very close to the habitat of the Palos Verdes Blue, and LAUSD knows that.
I do understand that families with younger children living in San Pedro probably want to see at least a new campus built somewhere in San Pedro.
I wonder where all those families are during the discussion period and comment periods concerning the proposed new campus.
To be perfectly honest, there may be more members of OUR community supportive of a new campus on the Upper Reservation of Fort MacArthur, than there are opponents.
But N.O.I.S.E. has become a very powerful force in opposition to the project and there is little in the way of organized groups who support the construction of a new campus.
It may be too late for those groups to get formed up and become as powerful and knowledgeable as N.O.I.S.E. has become.
Good luck in all your blogging endeavors, I’ll be reading your blog frequently.
